Why timber inlay...
Easy to clean surface
Engraved Surfaces: Laser or CNC engraving burns or carves out wood, creating deep, textured cavities (voids, gaps) where food particles and juices can easily settle. These areas are notoriously hard to clean thoroughly, allowing bacteria to multiply in the debris.
Inlay Surfaces: Inlay involves fitting another piece of wood or material into a void, which is then sealed with food-safe adhesive and sanded flush. The resulting surface is perfectly smooth, easily cleaned, preventing the entrapment of bacteria.
Smooth hygienic finish
Engraved Surfaces: Engraved lines can be weak points where the wood is prone to cracking, splitting, or warping over time. These splits provide more hiding spots for bacteria.
Inlay Surfaces: Quality inlay, especially using end-grain, maintains the overall integrity and structure of the board. An end-grain inlay acts as a "self-healing" surface, allowing fibers to close up after knife strikes, keeping the surface consistent and easier to wash.
Maintainable
Engraved Surfaces: Engraved designs wont allow for redressing of the surface once the board starts showing its age.
Inlay Surfaces: Our hardwood inlays are 5mm deep. This allows for redressing of the surface multiple times. Extending the life of your board.

Why we use Hard Wax Oil ...
It is non-toxic and certified food safe – we will happily provide a food-safe certificate.
It is water repellent – no moisture damage means nowhere for bacteria to breed.
It is durable – it will last many years before it needs recoating.
It is micro-porous – that means the oil integrates with the timber – no cracking!
It is easy to re-apply – just sand the board and apply 2 coats every few years. No Months.
It is eco-friendly – made from natural ingredients like beeswax and carnauba wax.
It looks beautiful – it accentuates the natural beauty of wood
When a product like hard wax oil ticks so many boxes it’s difficult not to be excited. Especially knowing the board will be well protected for at least 3 years (probably longer). So maintenance is really only required every few years, rather than every couple of months with board butter.
Hardwax oil is difficult to beat when it comes to oiling chopping boards.
All of our boards come finished with 2 coats of premium hard wax oil.
